Institute for Regional Projection and Distance Education (IPRED)

Call 001 – Distance and Online Undergraduate Tutors 2025

General

Considerations

The call for candidates to expand the pool of eligible candidates for distance and online education tutors of the Institute for Regional Projection and Distance Education – IPRED aims to select individuals with a strong sense of belonging and institutional commitment. These individuals will be hired by the University to carry out teaching functions, demonstrating personal, professional, and ethical excellence, all aligned with the fulfillment of the Institutional Vision, Mission, and Objectives. The tutor performs the function of subject management on a temporary basis, and their linkage to UIS is formalized through a special employment contract for a maximum duration of one academic semester.

The pool of eligible candidates allows IPRED programs to maintain a list of professionals who have met the requirements to be appointed as tutors in IPRED’s academic programs, with a validity of five (5) years. This does not imply immediate hiring; candidates will be contacted as teaching needs arise in the programs.

The essay evaluation will be conducted for those applicants who pass the requirements review and résumé evaluation stages. This essay must be prepared taking into account the following guidelines and within the dates established in the call schedule:

Guidelines for the Essay:

At Universidad Industrial de Santander, it is established [[1]] that in distance and virtual modalities, the relationship between the hours of interaction with the professor and independent work hours (HIP: HTI) has a higher proportion of HTI than in the face-to-face modality. Interaction hours between the teacher and the student (HIP) are mostly synchronous (between 70% and 80%) and are mainly conducted online (between 70% and 80%), although the program establishes a proportion of academic activities carried out in physical spaces defined in the educational project (between 20% and 30%). In the virtual modality, HIP development is mainly asynchronous (over 80%) and mostly online, mediated by ICT (over 80%).

The higher proportion of independent work hours makes one of the main tutorial guidelines the detailed organization of interactions, which becomes a key factor in the training process in distance and virtual modalities. Additionally, participation in synchronous tutorial sessions is not established as mandatory.

  • Topic: Write an argumentative essay [[2]] presenting the critical aspects to make interaction with students possible in distance and virtual modalities and, based on your arguments, what specific actions you would carry out.

  1. The argumentative essay must be submitted in PDF format, contain between 700 and 1000 words, in Arial font size 11, with 1.5 line spacing and margins of 2 cm x 2 cm x 2 cm x 2 cm (approximately 2 pages in length).

  2. The subject of the applied-for profile being used as the basis for the essay must be stated.

  3. If applying to profiles from different academic programs, one essay must be submitted for each program. If the profiles belong to the same academic program, only one essay must be submitted.

  4. The evaluation criteria are: Organization, coherence and relevance, Use of language, Argumentative and creative capacity, Validity of the concepts addressed, and Updated references in the bibliography.
